The ancient city of Ephesus - 3000 BC - 1100 AD. Discovered in the late 20th century along with artifacts dating back to 5000 BC. It was during the Roman rule that Ephesus reached its glory. It is estimated that the population of the city would have exceeded 250,000 inhabitants which would make it the fourth largest city of its time after Rome, Alexandria and Antioch cities. . .

Photos below eliminated the crush of tourists wherever possible. It’s estimated that about 8000 people visit Ephesus daily. That’s about one third fewer than the average daily count of 25,000 visitors climbing to the Acropolis in Athens!
