looking ahead…

The site is up and running. With a few more changes it should all be ready when we are packing for our spring trip to the Outer Banks.

Like all recreational fin & foilers there’s always a number of repairs, purchases, sales, trades, and targeted on-water moves in mind at this time of year. We are an impatient, determined, motivated, and optimistic (pick one* from below, I kinda like throng) of wind enthusiasts always expecting and hoping for strong, powered-up conditions. And, we seem to be able to forgive and forget any wrongly predicted weather forecast assurances from our smart phone Apps. Misinformation and occasional disappointment are not new to us. sigh

Aside: Ignore the fact that the wind in Bonaire kinda unexpectedly pooched this past week. Fortunately the trips booked there for our colleagues were cancelled and rebooked for the same time next year. Nice. For us, and our upcoming Hatteras April pilgrimage there are a number of uncertainties and questions to consider. But we remain ready, willing, impatiently waiting, and wanting to get on with it.

There are ways to be safe, on the way down, and to stay safe for the duration. For starters, bringing our own food and nutritious snacks and avoiding restaurants is one. Paying at the pump. Using rest stops to avoid motels, and planning our drive time. Hey, we always made it home in one continuous drive. Wearing the best N-95 masks when shopping and shopping with a well-thought list is definitely on the list. Making sure that the van is completely serviced in advance is of paramount importance. And, mindfully avoid others whenever on the move. If confronted with any threatening unreason remain quiet, smile, avoid eye contact, and offer up a jar of pure 100% maple syrup. Maple syrup goes with anything. Kinda like confronting an ape. Slowly crouch down and make yourself small. Make an offering. Look away with polite, kind disinterest and slowly put distance between you and whatever the threat. Hey, it worked for Jane Goodall.

The current easing of restrictions is also a hopeful sign that conditions are looking up. That said, a final determination will be made collectively with safety in mind, before the final payment and again before we depart.

The big, restrictive no to windsurfing in Hatteras has been a gruelling and stressful eternity that’s been way too slow unfolding these past two years.

Today’s biggest challenge for me might be locating a suitable photo to adorn this post. It has to positive and inviting. The bull shark pup on the deck of the 105L Quatro pic is definitely out. The pics from former tropical storms , floods, evacuations to Stumpy Point, and hurricanes won’t do either. It will likely have to change a few times and a count down of some sort like they do at Cape Canaveral is in order, but only way slower and catchy.

Cheers y’all and giddy-up with your personal organization. This snow, cold, threat, and annoying winter lake effect can’t last forever…
